Averages Can Be Misleading

So here we are about an hour before the stock exchanges open this Wednesday morning and Becky and Maria are all aflutter about the Dow futures being down.  But the Dow consists of only thirty stocks, picked by a committee at the Dow-Jones company.  And this morning shares of Apple and Boeing are down, down enough to affect the Dow.  Boeing for example is down about 6%.  So:  look behind the averages, perhaps to one more broadly based such as the S&P 500.
