How Much Has The Fed Changed In 97 Years?
This was the Federal Reserve Board in 1917. What's changed? Nothing much more than the furniture. The Fed still controls the economy by steering the perceptions of capital investors.
This week the Fed holds a two-day meeting. Even though its body of work mostly involves numbers, the focus will be on wording, specifically whether or not the Fed will continue to opine that it will keep interest rates low for a "considerable time." How important the wording? Even the speculation by the media pundits and the brokerage personalities that the Fed may drop or modify those two words was enough to weaken the markets so far in September, therefore costing you money.
By the way, this is how the Board looks now. Note the furniture.
