Crowds gathering daily in Greece for what purpose?

It makes a great pictorial on CNN but for what purpose do the crowds gather in Greece?  It makes one wonder what the employment situation is there.  Or maybe these folks are taking advantage of the four weeks vacation for a beginner, increasing to about five weeks after a few years.
